“Power-to-X” project officially launched
The large-scale Power-to-X project is one of four “Kopernikus projects for the transformation of the energy sector”, funded by the federal government of Germany. It is coordinated by RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich and DECHEMA. The launch event with federal minister of research, Johanna Wanka, had already taken place in October. Power to X will receive a 30 million research grant in the first phase.
The project deals with the question how surplus power can be used and stored to meet the need of energy in phases of low production. Power-to-Fuel is one of three options. Power-to-Gas and Power-to-Chemicals are also considered. The developed technologies shall be usable to a larger industrial extend within the next ten years.
To illustrate the planned procedures, Forschungszentrum Jülich published a video, which shows the individual steps. Unfortunately the video is only available in German. Since it uses more images than text it may be understandable nevertheless.
